This vineyard was planted for the first time in 1845, by Bar\u00e3o do Seixo , later being acquired by the Afonso Cabral family, who in turn sold it to the Messias family in 1956. In order to increase its production, Messias acquired in 1958, an adjacent property, Quinta do Rei, then owned by Gonzalez Byass.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wpb_row vc_row vc_row-fluid mk-fullwidth-true attched-false js-master-row mk-in-viewport\">\n<div class=\"vc_col-sm-8 wpb_column column_container _ height-full\">\n<div class=\"vc_custom_1504090837382\">\n<div id=\"text-block-4\" class=\"mk-text-block\">\n<p><strong>TERROIR<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stretching across the slopes of a hill topped by a small chapel dedicated to Saint B\u00e1rbara, the Quinta currently occupies 200 hectares, half of which are cultivated with vineyards, classified as the letter A, the highest category on the Douro scale. The grape varieties planted are naturally traditional in the region, capable of producing both Port Wine and wine with the Douro Designation of Origin.
