After dedicating around 50 years of his life to Douro winemaking and a few years before passing away, Jos\u00e9 Ant\u00f3nio Castro Ramos Pinto Rosas, decided to fulfill his last dream, that of creating the \u201cperfect farm\u201d for the production of Port Wines and Douro.
\nAfter a long and detailed study of the Douro Demarcated Region and with the help of topographical maps, Jos\u00e9 Rosas found a property with around 20 hectares, in the Douro Superior near Vila Nova de Foz C\u00f4a, which, due to its characteristics (location, altitude, sun exposure, soils, etc.), he judged to have the ideal conditions to produce superior quality wines.
\nHe bought the property in the early 90s and at the age of 72, he decided to apply all the know-how he acquired throughout his career. He planted a vineyard of around 8.5 hectares, with selected varieties (mass selection), on very hard, schist and \u201cvirgin\u201d soil where this type of culture had never existed before.
\nThe decision (the only one so far) to plant a farm with around 80% of Touriga Nacional, led JARPR to \u201cchristen\u201d the farm with the name Touriga. Although this variety is very unproductive, Jos\u00e9 Rosas already considered it to be one of the noblest in the region due to the quality of the wines that came from it.
\nThe remainder was planted with the Tinta Roriz variety.
\nToday Quinta da Touriga is managed by his son Jorge, who decided to follow his father's dream by giving a new impetus to the property's history. In 2004, he completed the construction of a modern wine cellar, which was awarded first place in the \u201cDouro Architecture Award\u201d in 2006. Currently, limited quantities of two wines with Douro Controlled Designation of Origin are vinified, Puro and Quinta da Touriga-Ch\u00e3, today recognized by the specialized press as one of the best wines produced in the Demarcated Region.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

Considered the younger brother of Quinta da Touriga Ch\u00e3, Puro is the authentic expression of its terroir. Despite being the second wine from this producer, it shows the class of great Douro reds, with great concentration of fruit, reminiscent of black plums and blackberries, as well as floral notes, chocolate and spices on the nose. In the mouth it is balanced, fruity, with firm tannins that give the wine an irresistible texture.
