There is no doubt that the English aristocracy played an important role in the development of Port wine vineyards, as happened in Bordeaux, namely with the M\u00e9doc Crus Class\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Douro wines, grown in an inhospitable climate under a scorching sun, with their low acidity and high levels of residual sugar, have always been difficult to transport. It was for this reason that the region invented fortification, a process that involves adding brandy to wine before the end of fermentation, giving Port its distinct alcohol-sugar balance, combined with a notable aging potential. Furthermore, the process requires the rapid and energetic extraction of tannins using the traditional treading method or, in more recent years, using mechanical presses.<\/p>\n<p>While the art of creating Port wine was being perfected, Bordeaux \u2013 another region with a talent for quenching the thirst of the English \u2013 invented winemaking through a process of prolonged maceration, which allowed the gradual and gentle extraction of tannins. This gave rise to the balance and subtlety of the great M\u00e9docs.<\/p>\n<p>The attempt to apply Bordeaux winemaking methods to grapes traditionally destined for the production of Vintage Port is the essence of the exciting CHRYSEIA project.<\/p>\n<p>The SYMINGTON family intended to combine their vast knowledge of the different terroirs and grape varieties of the Douro with the experience of Bruno PRATS in the Bordeaux region so that together they could produce wines from the best grapes grown in the best plots of the best farms, in fact Bordeaux spirit.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew James Symington first settled in the city of Porto in 1882. He quickly became a Port wine shipper and in 1914 took control of Warre&#039;s. The descendants of his three sons are today the owners of Warre&#039;s, Dow&#039;s and Graham&#039;s, in addition to numerous properties where some of the best in Cima Corgo can be found. The family&#039;s vineyard holdings in Douro now exceed 900 hectares. Charles Symington is responsible for the vineyards, winemaking and production management, while Rupert, Paul, John and Dominic travel around the world sharing the magic and secrets of their wines.<\/p>\n<p>After the sale of\u00a0<em>Ch\u00e2teau Cos d&#039; Ouvirnel<\/em>\u00a0which he managed for thirty years, Bruno Prats transferred his wine activities to\u00a0<em>Vi\u00f1a Aquitania<\/em>\u00a0in Chile, where he established a partnership with Paul Pontallier, Ghislain de Montgolfier and Felipe de Solminihac, and for Anwilka in South Africa, in partnership with Lowell Jooste and Hubert de Bouard de Laforest. The friendship between Bruno Prats and the Symington family developed through the family wine chain Primum Familiae Vini, of which\u00a0<em>Cos d&#039; Ouvirnel<\/em>\u00a0also belonged.<\/p>\n<p>In November 1998, the Symington family proposed that Bruno Prats participate in a new project to produce a top quality non-fortified Douro wine. This proposal took shape in 1999 with the creation of PRATS &amp; SYMINGTON Limitada as an equal partnership between the two families. Experimental production in this first year allowed the selection of the best lots and the most suitable grape varieties for the project. CHRYSEIA 2000 was the first vintage to be released.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p id=\"tw-target-text\" class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large XcVN5d tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Tradu\u00e7\u00e3o\"><span lang=\"pt\">Chryseia 2017 foi feita com as melhores uvas do Vale do Douro de Prats &amp; Symington vinhas, Quinta de Roriz e Quinta da Perdiz. Tal como acontece com todos os vinhos Chryseia anteriores, Quinta da Vila Velha, propriedade de James e Rupert Symington e que \u00e9 vizinha da Quinta de Roriz, tamb\u00e9m contribuiu para a mistura. 2017 foi o segundo ano mais seco do Douro e sem d\u00favida o mais quente das \u00faltimas quatro d\u00e9cadas. Para o ciclo vegetativo das videiras, entre mar\u00e7o e setembro, o d\u00e9ficit acumulado de chuvas em m\u00e9dia 50%. O inverno seco e ameno foi seguido pelos tr\u00eas meses cruciais da primavera &#8211; mar\u00e7o, Abril e maio &#8211; que foram cumulativamente 2,6 \u00b0 C mais quentes que a m\u00e9dia. A falta de chuva n\u00e3o obstante, as castas regionais responderam com resili\u00eancia caracter\u00edstica, ajustando cedo para as condi\u00e7\u00f5es excepcionalmente secas que prevaleceram desde o in\u00edcio do ano. Sem surpresa, a precocidade do ciclo vegetativo do ano resultou na primeira safra de todos os tempos gravado; colheita a partir do dia 28 de agosto com a Tinta Roriz na Quinta de Roriz e Quinta de Perdiz, e terminou a 18 de Setembro em Roriz e a 20 em Perdiz, com a Touriga Franca e alguma Touriga Nacional. Felizmente, o calor diminuiu um pouco durante Setembro, especialmente as temperaturas noturnas, o que criou uma situa\u00e7\u00e3o ben\u00e9fica refletida na alta qualidade das uvas recebidas na adega. O resultado da vindima superou todas as expectativas. Nota de prova, Bruno Prats (outubro 2019): Cor intensa que reflete grande concentra\u00e7\u00e3o. No nariz o carvalho est\u00e1 perfeitamente integrado e as notas florais da Touriga Nacional Combina bem com as notas mais bals\u00e2micas da Touriga Franca. Um toque de chocolate o final. Na boca a estrutura \u00e9 muito rica e longa. Os taninos s\u00e3o redondos e macios com eleg\u00e2ncia, mineralidade e frescura. O final \u00e9 muito longo e arom\u00e1tico.
